Environmental Consciousness

Pervious Parking Area
Finley Stadium

Much of our sustainable design philosophy involves applying a consciousness of the environmental impact to every decision we make in building design. This awareness began many years ago before it was in today's popular architectural jargon. We were part of the original design team for the Tennessee Valley Authority's Chattanooga Office Complex. This one million square foot facility in downtown Chattanooga designed twenty years ago includes innovations such as daylighting, highly efficient energy plant, lighting controls and material re-cycling that are the signatures of present day sustainable design initiatives.

More recently we have designed a large pervious parking area on a recovered brown-field site recycling storm water for irrigation through cisterns formed from the basements of abandoned industrial buildings.

The Chattanooga Convention Center features the country's first daylite exhibition halls.  Providing quality natural light and reducing the need for artificual lighting by over 50%.
